Spring 2016

Welcome to our beautiful spring 2016 issue of South Africa Deluxe. As we’re drawn outside by the warmer weather, our minds are drawn to lazy days in the sunshine, the heady scent of Jasmine, picnics in parks, and sipping champagne cocktails on golden sands. It’s been an exciting past few months with records being broken and blankets and scarves being donated to those who need it most, in honour of Nelson Mandela Day. Our South African athletes did us all proud, earning ten Olympic medals and an outpouring of love from a proud nation. There were a number of hugely exciting performances that resulted in a brighter international spotlight being focused on our athletes, (Wade van Niekerk’s record-breaking 400m and Caster Semenya’s smooth stride to victory in the 800m in particular come to mind). Spring is associated with renewal and rejuvenation and a wonderful way to bring this spirit into your life is to declutter and revisit your home’s interior design. We share some wonderful ideas in our Properties & Interiors section, and have also demystified the fascinating world of fine art auctions in South Africa, so there’s no reason to not attend an upcoming auction and purchase a few of our hugely talented local artists paintings and sculptures to brighten up your home. We explore the Eastern and Western Cape, focusing on the Garden Route, and share with you some fun and interesting places to visit along the world’s most glittering coastline. (For those considering a move to that glorious part of the country, we have also featured a selection of top estates for sale in Knysna and Plett to entice you.) And of course a trip to the Cape is incomplete without a visit to Stellenbosch, and we’ve delved into this city that is rich in history, culture, and some of the finest wines in the world. In our robust business and finance section this September, you’ll read all about creativity and forging new territories, with interesting insights from local and international directors, across a diverse spectrum of industries. For those of you travelling abroad on business or leisure in the near future, there are specials features on must-visit destinations in Central and Eastern Europe within our travel and resorts pages.
